I must confess I failed miserably

My Home TruthsMiserably failed I tell you. Just miserably.

Remember last week when I confessed that I would be taking a step back from the whole linky party thing?

Yeah right. So didn't even come close to happening.

Even as I was writing the post I knew that I would be joining in with the wonders of IBOT over at EssentiallyJess on Tuesday. As a proud member of TeamIBOT, how could I not? Plus the week before I had promised a bit of a button tutorial so I couldn't not share that.

Wednesday was the only day that I was able to stick to my resolve not to link. While I did post a Wordless Wednesday post I didn't head over to the lovely Trish to join her linky. Which kinda made me a bit sad for a couple of reasons.

The first being because I do love Trish and it has been ages since I have actually participated in WW, but there are just so many other posts to share the love with. I just knew I didn't have the time. The second is more self centred and revolves around views. Or lack there of. No more need be said really.

When I confessed on Monday I had totally forgotten that it was the week my fellow TeamIBOT member over at always Josefa was hosting her monthly #convocoffee link up. This month the conversation was about hairdressers and I just couldn't miss out. My hair experiences were guaranteed to make you giggle.

By the time Friday rolled around I was adamant that I would be able to return to my no linking resolve. That was of course until I saw Samuel Johnson on the Today show and I just had to share all the things I knew about breast cancer. Which then just had to be linked up as much as possible all over the place to ensure maximum exposure.

At this stage I was certain that I would be able to walk away from linking for a while. Till I remembered that Mum Talks Autism hosted Blogs I Love on Saturday. There were so many wonderful post out there I couldn't help but share them.

This tweet from Jenn confirmed it was the right thing to do
So until I posted this photo I didn't actually realise it said test rather than tear!

As much as having a post out every day in January drained me, it was also a very positive experience. One I want to replica again. I need to make sure I keep on writing. Sure I won't be beating myself up too much if I don't get something out every day but I certainly will be rejoicing the times that I do.

After all the only way to be a writer is to actually just sit down and write.

Sounds so easy when it is said like that doesn't it?

  1. I don't pressure myself to write and I find that the times that I do are the times that I feel like I have nothing to write. I try to just go with the flow most of the time. Like you though I love linking up!

    1. Yes I like to stay pretty relaxed about it all as well, I just know that the more I write the better lots of things are!

  2. It's hard right? I love writing, I just wish I had more time to do it uninterrupted and in peace and not under pressure and with screaming toddlers at my feet. Have a great week Rhi, and I can't believe you resisted a dishwasher? You must confess about that one day :) xxx

    1. Yep exactly! Damn them and their constant need for food and attention! Yep I really and truely did, for such a long time as well. And when I did finally relent and give in, it was very begrudgingly. It's only been a few months but I don't ever what to be without one again

  3. I've been holding back from participating in any other link ups because I know I wouldn't be able to commit to it properly, especially all the commenting. You are truly doing a wonderful job. And I really, really need to read that button tutorial, so I'm very happy you've posted that! x

    1. Yes it is hard to find all the time that is needed to read all the other great blogs that join in. Thank you for your kind words and hope the tutorial helped

  4. I have embraced link ups this year - and even created one of my own! So if you're hankering for another linky, head over to my blog on Fridays for "Flashback Friday" - different to a couple of others that share a favourite post from the week. My linky hosts posts that are about the past - favourite memories, bad hairstyles from the 80's, TV shows I used to watch as a kid etc. Lots of fun :)

I understand about the time factor too though - I won't link up if I know I haven't got time to visit other blogs. I try to get through as many as I can and I try to read posts from bloggers I follow etc. At the very least, I visit and comment on those who have ended up in the same row as me on the linky. Some are impossibly huge - a big task even for the host to get through them all! With smaller links like Kirsty's I try my best to visit every link.

    1. I have seen a few people say they have been joining in with that one Cathy, I will certainly be keeping that in mind.
I do the same as you, try and get to all in a small one and then in the larger ones say all of my row and maybe another five or so if any of my fav bloggers have joined in. Sadly there is only so many hours in a day though

  5. I love link up's, but it is quite tricky to find the time to read through all the other great posts linking up. I love Grace from With Some Grace's idea of the power of four.

Thanks also for linking up to Francesca's Festa of Favourites :-)

  6. I often do linkups but run out of steam for all the commenting...also being in WA I am often last in line if the blog link opens at 6am eastern states time. So sometimes not many comments either. It's hard to find a balance

    1. That is really disheartening as well sometimes isn't it? Joining in, sharing some comment love but then not getting many comments in return. Fairy wishes and butterfly kisses lovely, I think daylight savings ends soon so at least it wont be as bad. I am in the NT so I know what you mean. Can only imagine the difference it would make.

  7. I find it had to get the mum/wife/manager/writer parts of my life into a healthy balance - I try to post at least once a week (usually an IBOT post but not always) and deal with my writing commitments elsewhere and then if the fancy strikes for more I write again but don't try to force it - if the writing doesn't flow I walk away and do other things. I don't think this is really a failure - you took part but it was because they were things that stirred your soul not because you felt obligated.

    1. I don't really think it was failure either, I meant it in a funny kind of way. It sure is tricky finding that balance of it all, thanks for stopping by

  8. The more pressure there is to write the harder it is, obviously. I think as soon as you say you're not going to write/join up linkys every day, that's when things start popping into your head rapid-fire! I think blogging is like working - do it while you can, because you never know when it will dry up! ha!

    1. To try about being able to do it while you can! Should be applied to everything in life I think

  9. I was wondering where your resolve had gone Rhi, I saw you all over the place last week! I'm trying to pull back a bit but I'm still posting 4 times a week. I'm just trying to write smarter and making sure at a minimum I comment on the others in my row for IBOT and FYBF. Linkups are so much fun, why wouldn't you take part in as many as you can? Thanks for continuing to support mine - I appreciate that you make the effort every week Rhi!

  11. Wow. I feel like a lazy linker! I just hit IBOT and FYBF. There are others I'd like to participate in, but I just know I can't commit to the linking and commenting weekly. You're super impressive!
